Sharyland Utilities (“Sharyland”) is a Texas-based electric transmission utility providing wholesale energy within the Texas Interconnection (~24 million customers) as regulated by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. In April 2016, Sharyland contracted Irby to rebuild 20.2 miles of 138kV transmission line near Martin County, West Texas.

As subcontractor to McCord Engineering (Sharyland’s nominated engineering firm), Irby’s scope included the tear-down and reconstruction of the existing 138kV transmission line, including concrete and steel poles, between Grady and Brown Substations. Five OPGW splice cans were installed along the route and construction also included four highway crossings.

The project was completed on time, to schedule, and with zero lost-time incidents in October 2016.

Start Date: April 2016
Completion Date: October 2016
