Hardwood to Waelder Energized Transmission Project
Scope: 13.9 miles of 69kV energized transmission line
Location: Hardwood, TX
Client: Lower Colorado River Authority
Irby Construction was awarded the LCRA Hardwood to Waelder Energized Transmission Project in October of 2017. The goal of this project was to increase the reliability and capability of transmission facilities on T-145 between Harwood and Waelder substations. This was accomplished by upgrading the 12.6 mile 69kV stretch between substations to 138kV capable. The scope of work consisted of replacing 112 structures to complete the conductor upgrade.
In addition to the conductor upgrade, the scope included the installation of OPGW shield wire from Waelder substation to Flatonia substation. The construction for this project was performed on energized transmission lines, and Irby worked with Quanta Energized Services and affiliate company Probst to perform the energized work. Irby self-performed the foundations for this project. New structures included vertical configuration braced post concrete tangents and steel dead ends.
