Irby Construction is featured in the September issue of Construction Today magazine. The story features Irby’s work restoring electric power lines for a Florida-based utility in the wake of Hurricane Michael. With more than 100 transmission towers on the ground over a 34-mile stretch of swamp and ranch land, Irby completed restoration in an unprecedented time frame. Read about the project and more about Irby on Construction Today’s website.
A recent article from American Crane & Transport highlights the struggles that Irby Construction and TNT Crane & Rigging faced on a job site in Texas. When crane equipment was too heavy to move across a canal bridge to the job site and solid ground was hard to find following several rainy days, the team had to get creative. Read more about it here.
The electric power industry isn’t known for being especially apt for change. At a recent panel discussion hosted by Politico, panelists discussed the cumbersome multistate permitting process that often slows or derails transmission projects. The panel also discussed the importance of research and development in the industry. In particular, there was a push to advance long-duration electric storage. Visit S&P Global to see the complete article and learn who participated on the panel.
Just in time for the start of the 2019 Hurricane Season, Florida Power and Light (FPL) is launching a pilot program in Sarasota working on an underground power grid. The initiative will help improve reliability in the event of a storm. Irby Construction is proud to be a part of this project. Look closely to see our crew at work in this news story.
