Substation Superintendent

Position Overview

Employees in this personnel classification shall possess a minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years of substation construction experience. The individual will possess all of the skills required for assignment as a superintendent for any craft within his/her area of responsibility. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards. Must be able to direct multiple crews.

 

Pre-Construction Duties

  • Attend pre-construction meeting with PM/Estimator.
  • Provide technical assistance, interpretation of drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment etc. as required.
  • Review bid packages for accuracy, completeness, and overall electrical scope of work.
  • Assist in instituting construction plans
  • Organize crews & assign foreman to job task
  • Generate list of required personnel & equipment.
  • Generate initial list of required tooling.
  • Arrange for personnel & equipment transfers to project.

 

Construction Duties

  • Review and become familiar with multiple contracts.
  • Accountable for quality of work to insure that it is being performed according to specifications.
  • Visit crews and monitor their safety, quality, & production.
  • Assist the Foreman in coordination of major project activities
  • Such as critical tasks
  • Get feedback from owner on quality, safety, schedule, materials etc.
  • Attend all required project meetings with Owner as needed.
  • Assist with updating schedules and/or progress reports.
  • Verify that as-builts & progress charts are maintained.
  • Have a good line of communication with inspector.
  • Insure that all change-orders are documented and billed to the Owner.

 

General Duties

  • Review personnel with Operations (i.e, personal evaluations, pay raises, CDL requirements, personal problems, loans, etc.).
  • Arrange and/or participate in weekly foremen meetings (review if not attending).
  • Arrange and/or participate in monthly safety meetings (review if not attending).
  • Participate in monthly job safety review meetings.
  • Accountable for cost, progress and schedule for duration of project.
  • Assist BU with monthly forecast by the 10th of each month.
  • Accountable for compliance with safety program and review all accidents.
  • Follow up on any complaints (from owner, general public, or landowners).

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to stay out of town. Typical work weeks are 4-10 hour shifts or 5-10 hour shifts. Available to travel as the project requires.
  • Willing to work over-time and be able to work extended periods of time.
  • May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
  • May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
  • Walking and working across uneven terrain.
  • Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.
  • Must be able to work outside 100% of the time. We work in inclement weather that includes heat, cold, rain and possible snow.
  • Able to lift in excess 50 pounds on a daily basis.
  • Willing to work off the ground in man baskets. Normal working heights are 20’-60’ with the possibility of working at 120’ heights.
  • Must be able to work around energized systems.

Substation Journeymen Electrician

Substation Journeymen Electrician

Position Overview

Employees in this personnel classification shall possess a minimum of one (4) years of experience in a Journeymen electrical role. Substation, Commercial, or Industrial construction Journeymen electrical experience is a plus. Journeymen electricians must have a valid journeymen electrician card or be able to pass the Journeymen electricians test per government standards. The individual will possess all of the skills required for assignment from the foreman for complete electrical installations. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards, as well as the National Electrical Code.

 

Construction Duties

  • Typical Substation construction from Greenfield to Remodels. This includes
  • Trenching for ground grid & conduits
  • Backfilling and compacting
  • Foundation drilling, digging and installation
  • Lifting placing and setting structural steel
  • Lifting placing and installing insulators and busswork
  • Lifting, placing & installing substation equipment such as breakers, metering, transformers, arrestors etc.
  • Moving and pulling control cable to medium voltage cable
  • Placing finish stone and smoothing out the yard

 

Job Specific Duties

  • Being able to read and understand control cable schedules from the client.
  • Ability to ensure that conduit sizes are correct for control cable pulls and installation techniques.
  • Have the knowledge or ability to read P&C prints for proper termination of multiple conductor control cables up to 12/C #12 all the way down to 1/C 4/0 cables.
  • Have the knowledge or ability to learn medium voltage terminations up to 34.5kv terminations.
  • Irby does offer medium voltage termination training and certification.
  • Knowledge base to understand DC systems as well as AC systems.
  • Supplying insight on project construction as far a control cable pulling, installation and termination.
  • Ability & skill set to work in energized panels
  • Knowledge of electrical, below grade or concrete foundation trade a plus.
  • High Voltage Substation construction knowledge or experience a plus.
  • Accountable for quality of work to insure that it is being performed according to specifications.

Position Overview

Employees in this personnel classification shall possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in rough terrain equipment operation. Substation Construction equipment operation experience is a plus. This is not limited to equipment training to actually performing equipment operations in a job type role for 2 years. The individual will possess all of the skills required for assignment from the foreman for operating equipment. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards, especially for equipment operation.
