Irby & FPL ARE leading the charge on battery storage.

In December 2021, Irby Construction completed work on-site at Manatee Battery Energy Storage Center (BESS) and substation, which consists of 132 new battery line-ups connected to a new 230/34.5 kV substation. The Florida Power and Light project included the placement of 53,144 individual battery modules on a site that is the size of 3 football fields.

Manatee Battery Energy Storage Center is the world’s largest solar-powered battery.

The 409MW/900MWh Manatee energy storage center will accelerate the retirement of fossil fuel generation, saving FPL customers more than $100 million while eliminating more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEMS WILL BE ESSENTIAL TO A RENEWABLE FUTURE

Battery storage systems are emerging as an essential part of integrating more renewable power into our transmission and distribution system.

The Irby team works with providers to develop projects and solutions customized to meet specialized needs in the short and long term. It’s never too early to explore costs and value engineering opportunities.
