National Lineman Appreciation Day

On April 18th we honor the hard work, innovation, grit and dedication of electrical line workers.
They are a brotherhood and a family. Essential to the work we do, they are always appreciated!

Irby Family of Linemen

Linemen are the heart of our industry, and the reason for Irby’s success.

We appreciate the sacrifices our linemen make and their dedication to getting the job done safely.

Irby’s Linemen are the core of the Irby family. In many cases, they really are family-cousins or brothers. If not bound by name, they are bound by the brotherhood of their work and their mission to keep each other safe. They begin each morning with a commitment to go home safe each night. Nonetheless, the job is a tall order and it  is hazardous. So we must not only appreciate the linemen themselves but also their families for supporting them in their work at Irby.

Storm RESTORATION

Linemen are never more appreciated than when they restore the normalcy of power following a major storm.

This past year held another incredibly active storm season. Irby crews worked a number of winter storms and two named Hurricanes, in 12 states, for 12 customers, with over 210,153 total man-hours.

Our linemen’s dedication ensured that impacted communities were able to turn their lights back on.

I’ve been a lineman’s wife for nearly twenty years. It can be very hard on a family. When storms come through, he’s never home and the days are long. He loves what he’s does and loves teaching the new apprentice coming up. It’s a profession that not just anybody can do and I am so thankful to my husband and all lineman for their sacrifice to keep the lights on. So today, tomorrow and everyday, thank you for all you do! Be safe, so that you can get back to your families! *My husband is Richard Gray, working in Arkansas right now.

Cheers to all the men and women in this noble profession. You are counted on to do the nearly impossible. When folks run from storms, you run towards them, when the weather or terrain seems impossible to navigate, no one gives up; with proper planning and commitment to safety, there is nothing that cannot be done. I worked for Irby Construction for 45 years and I was proud of the company that I worked for and the fine folks I worked with everyday. Reputations are earned not given. A company is only as good as its employees; there is no wonder why Irby is considered the best. I salute everyone of you for everything you do, day in and day... Read more

My son is 19 years old and just graduated in March from Northwest Lineman College in California. When we toured the college he knew without a doubt that this was the line of work he was made to do. With a lot of hard work, he graduated at the top of his class and hopes to start an apprenticeship as soon as possible. I have so much excitement for his future as I learn more and more about this industry. What a joy to explore your website this morning and realize its National Lineman Apprecaiton Day! Today, we appreciate the professionals in an incredibly dangerous but necessary profession. Thank you to the men and women who often work in challenging conditions to keep the lights on. Usually, lineman are only thought of when the power is out, but today we are reminded to #thankalineman. I would personally like to thank my brother, Travis Martin. He is a lineman on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and I could not be more proud of him!
