Irby California crew

Irby California crews are rebuilding distribution lines near Calexico, upgrading hard-to-access poles and services in El Centro, and installing steel transmission poles and switches between Niland and Calipatria.

When a 92kV transformer failed, our crews also answered the call with emergency night work to build a backfeed.

Irby Construction Co

Irby Construction Company is proud to have provided engineering, procurement, and construction services for Houston IV, a 160 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage system developed by SMT Energy Houston, Texas.

Working alongside SMT Energy and FlexGen the Irby team helped commission the facility in just six weeks, three times faster than the original deployment timeline. Now operational, Houston IV will help strengthen the reliability and resilience of the ERCOT grid during periods of peak energy demand.

Since 1993, the Northwest Lineman College (NLC) has been preparing the next generation of talent for careers in the electric utility industry, and Irby Construction has seen the results firsthand.

Irby’s own Westley Spickard, Brad Cameron, Greg Berry, Desiree Bernardo, Jason Stewart, Stephanie Gordon, and Cade Skuza (and a few additional Irby folks) recently visited the NLC Combine in Edgewater, Florida, where they connected with prospective recruits, made new connections, and took in all the action.
