Battery Energy Storage System Program for Hunt Energy (Principle Services)
Type: Battery Energy Storage System
Scope: Construction of fifty (50) 10MW BESS sites
Location: Various locations throughout Texas
Client: Principle Services
Principle Services, LLC, a Veteran Owned small business providing Owner’s Representative services within the power infrastructure industry, contracted with Irby Construction in 2021 to build fifty (50) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites in Texas for Hunt Energy Network, a Dallas-based operator of distributed energy resources.
The program includes two phases, and each site will be deployed and interconnected to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid over a five-year period providing grid-enhancing support, and cleaner, more reliable energy. ERCOT manages the flow of electric power to more than twenty-six million Texas customers, representing about 90 percent of the state’s electric load.
Each of the 50 BESS sites will include 750 batteries, three BESS buildings, three PCS inverters, two power racks with twelve electrical panels, various sizes of underground conduits/cable trench, MV cables and terminations, a distribution line with three to five poles, CAT6/fiber communication cables, two steel light poles with mounted cameras and a host of electrical equipment and terminations.
As of April 2023, Irby has procured more than 50% of the materials for this project including conduit, distribution poles, overhead wiring, and all items for the ground grid. In addition, with more than ten projects completed as of April 2023, there have been zero incidents and zero OSHA recordables.
Start Date: December 2021
Projected Completion: TBD
