In a story released this week, Pattern Energy Group LP (Pattern Development) announced its affiliate’s proposed Southern Cross Transmission project filed a petition for a siting certificate with the Mississippi Public Service Commission (MPSC).

The petition includes the designation of a preferred route for the MPSC’s consideration following several years of work to identify preferred placement of the line. According to the story, Pattern has engaged with landowners, farmers, foresters, and municipalities in the process of engineering the route.

The project is reported to be one of the nation’s first overhead HVDC transmission lines constructed in 20 years. Private investors are funding the project which is the only connection of low-cost renewable energy in Texas to the Southeast.

Pattern CEO, Mike Garland reports the project will generate jobs and economic benefits as well as provide significant reliability by connecting two robust systems.
